There are
several quiet anchorages beyond Hog Island. These are
much less traveled and very secluded, so if being totally by
yourself is what you are looking for, this is it.
There are few facilities and services, so you’re
really on your own. This is not a beach destination.
Clarkes Court
Bay
is just to the east of the Hog Island anchorage. It
can be unprotected from the strong
gusts of wind that whip up over the surrounding hills, depending
on where you are anchored.
This is a large bay, so it is possible to be far away from everybody else.
The village of Woburn is at the head of the bay, and Nimrod’s
store provides basic essentials. The
Little Dipper Restaurant is also located up the
hill from the dinghy dock at Woburn.
Other
secluded anchorages include Calvigney Island, Port
Edgemont, Calvigney Harbor, and Westerhall
Point. I did not have the opportunity to visit any
of them, so cannot comment on them personally. They
are described in the Doyle Guide, and based on the
surrounding landscape, I would believe them to be very quiet
and secluded. A few days in each would be the proper
prescription for those really wanting to get away from it
all.
